Roz and I would talk on the telephone for hours and hours about family, friends, her favorite brothers, Gerald Smith and Luther Keith, and what they were doing for their family and the community.  They probably had no idea how much she truly loved them and depended on them as her brothers.  I used to forget that they were not her blood brothers.  But that was Roz.  We discussed programs, projects, and colleges for our children (and others) for over a decade, and their successes she sincerely enjoyed.  If she met a child, it was “hers.”   This hands-on mother loved her children, and was always trying to identify somebody's child to introduce to the Chavis youth program at U of M, the NAACP, and a community program to clean up the neighborhood.  With pleasure, she accepted her role as a “village mother,” whether she had 10 or 20 under her watch, either directly or through a parent.  But that was Roz, watching out for a chance to help others. Sleepovers were regularly held at their house and “Big Al” as she affectionately referred to her husband, was always near her side.  Speaking from the outside looking in, from all accounts, they seemed like an ideal couple.  Our conversations were always positive or solution-oriented -- that’s why I called her my dear friend.  Roz was a person that knew how to stand up for righteousness and fairness.  I admired her for the way she would take an issue to the next level when she or someone she knew had been violated.  That was Roz, she was not having it.  It was these traits described in this writing that drew me to Roz: a showmanship of what it is to love thy neighbor as self.  She was a loving, respectful, dedicated wife, mother, sister and friend like none other I have ever met.  She was my sister-friend and her family shall forever be affixed in my heart and prayers.

Rosalind was the sweetest, kindest, person you would ever meet she would always bring gifts into work for my 4 small children and I would say you don't have to do that and she would say I am buying these games for the kids so that you can spend quality time with them because family comes first she would always say that to me she spoke very highly of her 2 children and she was very proud of them and very involved in there lives and was a very upfront person you never had to wonder what she was thinking because Rosalind was going to let you know in a very nice way. She will be greatly missed and to Al and the children she will always be with you and watching over you because she is truly an  angel heaven sent so keep your head up and just know she will be looking down on you and be there when you need her Bless you with Love and peace.

I will always remember what a strong person you were at work where you were under such distress. With so many against you. God was always with you through it all.  You had the grace to keep a smile on your face and laugh. I admire you for your compassion and your huge heart. The greatest thing in your life was your family and friends. You will be missed. I am a better person for having known you.

You were a true Angel on this earth.

I watched this beautiful young lady grow up, graduate from school, get married and have a family.  As a teenager, she was fun-loving, energetic, full of love for family and friends and just generally excited about life.  She was a child that her family was very proud of, and others that knew her well were happy to be counted in her circle of friends.  My family and I will really miss her wonderful laugh, smile and caring ways.  You were an angel and I love you.

Our prayers are with this family, and may they know that she is only just away and someday will be reunited with them in Glory.

Rosalind was a true friend and supporter of Detroit Public Television.  In her time as Chair of our Community Advisory Panel, I was impressed with her dedication to bringing people into the public television family, especially young people.  She brought many students to the station, gave generously of her time and money, offered wise counsel and generally brightened any room in which she appeared.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.  We will miss her.
